Keyboard shortcuts
Shortcuts work anywhere
Press a key and it works, wherever you last clicked. There is nothing to focus first.
Two things keep their own keystrokes. A field you are typing into swallows them, so typing 25.4 into a dimension never switches you to the Circle tool; click away or press Enter and the shortcuts resume. The Import dialog holds them all while it is open.
Tools
| Key | Tool |
|---|---|
| V | Select |
| D | Pencil chain |
| P | Point |
| L | Line |
| C | Circle |
| R | Rectangle |
| A | Arc, or toggle the next pencil segment between line and arc when a chain is in progress |
| E | Extrude the sketch: open the dialog over the drawing |
| Q | Revolve it instead, turning the profile about an axis |
| O | Offset a closed region of the sketch |
| W | New construction plane. W for workplane; P is the Point tool |
| B | Show or hide the constraint badges, the glyphs that say what holds what |
| F | Fit the view to the drawing. Moves the viewport, never the geometry |
| M | Arm or drop the measuring tool. Model view only |
| G | Arm or drop the move arrows. Model view only |
A is the one overloaded key. Mid-chain it arms a tangent arc for the next segment instead of switching tools. See drawing with each tool.
Select modes
These gate what a click or a drag box may pick, in both the sketch and model views.
| Key | Mode | Picks |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | All | Everything. In 2D points beat curves; in 3D an edge beats the face behind it |
| 2 | Vertex | Sketch points, and corners of the solid |
| 3 | Edge | Lines and arcs, and edges of the solid |
| 4 | Face | Closed profiles, and faces of the solid |
Editing
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Ctrl/Cmd + Z | Undo |
| Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + Z | Redo |
| Ctrl/Cmd + A | Select everything drawn |
| Ctrl/Cmd + C | Copy the selection |
| Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + C | Copy with constraints |
| Ctrl/Cmd + V | Paste, honouring how the copy was taken. Repeated pastes stair-step 10 mm each time |
| Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + V | Paste with constraints, whatever the copy was |
| Ctrl/Cmd + D | Duplicate, offset 10 mm up and right |
| Delete or Backspace | Delete the selection |
Undo has gaps. See undo, copy and paste.
While drawing
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Esc | Close the open command dialog; failing that, abandon whatever is half-drawn, clear the selection, close the context menu, drop the measuring, move and trace tools |
| Enter | End a pencil chain |
| Shift (held) | Lock the pending segment to the nearest axis and add the matching Horizontal or Vertical constraint |
| Shift + click | Add to or remove from the selection |
| Shift + drag | Add a drag-box selection to the existing one |
| Shift + drag a dimension label | Lock the annotation's offset to a straight bearing (the axes and the diagonals) |
The 3D view
The Alt-led keys aim the camera, and they work only while the model view is showing. The plain letters stay with the tools above.
| Key | View |
|---|---|
| Alt + T | Top |
| Alt + F | Front |
| Alt + L | Left |
| Alt + I | Iso |
| Alt + N | Square on to the active sketch's plane, or to the construction plane most facing you when no sketch is open |
Alt + N keeps to the side of the plane the camera is already on, so it never swings the view through the part.
The panel separators
The edge between the viewport and either panel is a separator. Tab to it, and:
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| ← / → | Move it 16 px. The direction that grows the panel is the one towards the middle of the screen |
| Shift + ← / → | Move it 48 px |
| Home | Back to the width it starts at, which is also the narrowest it goes |
Mouse
| Action | Sketch view | Model view |
|---|---|---|
| Left drag on empty space | Drag-box select (must fully enclose) | Orbit |
| Left drag on geometry | Move it, re-solving live | Drag a sketch point, if one is under the cursor |
| Middle drag | Pan | |
| Right drag | Pan | |
| Both buttons | Pan | |
| Scroll | Zoom about the cursor | Zoom |
| Left drag on a panel separator | Widen or narrow that panel | Widen or narrow that panel |
| Right click | Context menu | |
| Long press, 0.5 s | Context menu (for touch) |
Not bound
There is no shortcut for Save, Open, Import, Example, or Clear. The 3D view's own keys are the Alt-led views above; the tool and mode keys still work while it is showing.
